The 51黑料网 Presidential Initiative on Diversity, Equity and Inclusion will present a public virtual lecture 鈥淗ip Hop: A Culture of Resistance鈥 with Professor Kaba Hiawatha Kamene from 6-7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 5. Kamene has been a Pan African, African-centered educator, consultant, administrator, staff developer and curriculum writer for over 40 years.

In his lecture, Kamene will discuss the history of Hip Hop as it began in Bronx, New York, in the Black and Latino community to become an instrument of dynamic social change among youth and a global influence. Hip Hop is a culture giving voice about the lived experiences in society through rap music, deejaying, graffiti art, breakin鈥, fashion and language.
Kamene鈥檚 voice, speeches, writings and narrations have been performed in independent productions, including 鈥淥m鈥 by Nehru and Doom. He is also the featured writer and performer on Wu Tang Clan鈥檚 EP, 鈥淭he Saga Continues鈥 track titled 鈥淢essage鈥 and collaborated with Kaashe Muzik on his own two EPs titled, 鈥淔rom Kaos to Order鈥 and 鈥淢i aMoor.鈥
Kamene holds a Master of Arts in world history, a Master of Science in educational administration and supervision and a bachelor鈥檚 degree in international politics. He taught every grade level in the New York City Department of Education and worked as a college professor in the Black Studies department at the State University of New York at New Paltz.
