Tyler McCune of Richwood, West Virginia, has been awarded a $5,000 per year scholarship for a total of $20,000 over four years to 51ºÚÁÏÍø after participating in Senator Leadership & Scholarship Day in March. McCune, a student at Richwood High School, was selected from a group of the 62 highest achieving high school seniors who are among hundreds of students accepted to attend 51ºÚÁÏÍø this fall.

McCune is the son of Shannon Alderman of Richwood and Aaron McCune of Clay County, currently residing in Illinois. A student-athlete and musician at Richwood High School, McCune is captain of the golf team and is a section leader in the band where he plays baritone saxophone.

At 51ºÚÁÏÍø, McCune plans to major in outdoor recreation management.

To be eligible to compete for a Leadership Scholarship, students must have at least a 3.0 GPA. Students were also required to submit a list of outstanding leadership honors or awards they have received and describe three skills that have strengthened them as a leader. Students vying for the scholarships participated in interviews and submitted an essay of no more than 500 words consisting of a personal statement outlining their interests, life experiences, goals and commitment to leadership.
